Lifts and lifting equipment safety

We take the safety of our customers, colleagues and visitors very seriously. To meet all our regulatory requirements and best practices, we regularly service and maintain lifts within your homes and in our communal areas.

We also complete LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) safety inspections.

Servicing and repairs

Our lift servicing and repairs are carried out by specialist third parties: Jacksons Lifts, Classic Lifts and RJ Lifts.

If a lift or lifting equipment needs to be serviced or repaired, one of our contractors will write to you directly with proposed appointment dates and times to carry out the servicing.

If you have any issues with your lift, please ring us to report a problem. Visit our steps to take if someone is stuck in a lift page for useful advice too.

If your lift is beyond economical repair or it's become difficult to use, this may be stopping you from using the equipment as you need to. We will make a referral to the Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) team at your local council to seek support for a new lift. This may also involve the council's Occupational Therapy team.

LOLER inspections

We carry out LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) inspections to ensure the continued safety of lifts and that they pose no health and safety risks.

We have partnered with Zurich and VT Inspections to carry out LOLER inspections. They will write to you directly with proposed appointment dates and times for these.

Helping us keep lifts and lifting equipment safe

You can help us keep lifts and lifting equipment safe by following this advice.

Lifts in your own home

  • Let us know if you install or remove any lifting equipment - so that we can make sure we have this on our programme to service, repair and inspect regularly.
  • Allow access to your home when our contractors make an appointment.
  • If you have lifting equipment installed in your home, let us know if any of your contact details change (such as mobile phone numbers or email addresses).
  • Make sure that stairlifts or through floor lifts are kept free from debris and can be easily accessed, so that the servicing and repairs can happen freely.

Communal passenger lifts

  • Please make sure you do not use these lifts for moving heavy equipment (such as sofas, wardrobes and whites good) beyond the maximum safe working limit of the lift. This will be displayed within the lift cabin.
