Affordable homes development on former Camrose Football Stadium site
We've announced plans to redevelop the site of the former Camrose football stadium into much-needed affordable homes for local families.
On 17 December, SNG purchased the site of the former Camrose football ground from Basron Developments Ltd. The deal will see us bring forward plans to deliver an affordable-led new development. The site, which has been vacant for some time, currently has planning permission for 85 homes and a 70-bedroom care home.
Our intention is for the Camrose site to provide much-needed social housing in a good central location within the town, providing new homes for some of the households currently waiting on the Basingstoke and Deane housing register.
Tom Titherington, Chief Investment and Development Officer at SNG said: “There are over 4,400 households that need a new home waiting on the Basingstoke and Deane housing register. We are committed to doing what we can to provide more affordable homes to meet the urgent need in Basingstoke.
“The Camrose site, which has been vacant for some time, offers an opportunity to build new affordable housing. SNG is a not-for-profit affordable housing provider, so we want to provide as many affordable homes on the site as we can”.
All the homes will be built to SNG’s Homes and Place Standard, with high sustainability and livability principles, which were created in collaboration with their customers. These new homes aim to support thriving communities while meeting modern housing needs.
The Government has been clear that the first port of call for development should be brownfield land. That means making the most of previously developed urban land – bringing derelict sites back into use, taking forward small sites, and seizing suitable opportunities to make better use of existing land and buildings.
As a not-for-profit organisation, all our earnings are reinvested into providing sustainable homes and supporting local communities. In the coming year our #iwill Fund and Thriving Communities Fund will be expanded through the launch of a new Community Foundation in the coming year.
