Derelict site now 27 new apartments for social rent in Bristol
SNG (Sovereign Network Group) has opened a new wholly social rent apartment complex in Bristol.
The new Perry House development at Bullard Close in the Stokes Croft area near the city centre, was built on the previously derelict brownfield Carriageworks site.
The 27 one- and two-bedroom apartments are all built to SNG’s Homes and Place Standard, which was co-created with the housing association’s customers and holds it to high standards for wellbeing, quality and sustainability. The homes will be highly energy efficient and low-cost to run with each home powered by a Modul-AIR exhaust air source heat pump and high levels of insulation.
The properties also come with some appliances pre-installed including fridges and ovens. New residents will also be able to access Sovereign’s extensive community investment and wider support.
Bristol City Council had a critical role to unlock the land for housing, and the development has been supported by £1.9 million funding from Homes England through the Affordable Homes Programme. The development was constructed by The PG Group.
James Gibson – Regional director for Development at SNG said:
“These new apartments at Perry House are part of our ambition to develop thousands more urgently needed affordable and sustainable homes to the high standards our customers’ rightly expect. By working closely with Homes England and Bristol City Council, we’ve been able to help more people find a good, affordable home in a city where there is enormous housing pressure. Where people have these homes we know they can enjoy better lives.
“This new range of apartments really demonstrates our commitment to put the customer at the heart of everything we do. It also shows how we strive to design high-quality homes which exceed standards and norms, wherever possible.”
John Kearney - Head of Provider Management Strategic Partnerships from Homes England said:
“We are pleased to have been able to support SNG with grant funding through the Affordable Homes Programme. The Perry House development will deliver much needed, high-quality, affordable housing in Bristol, that meets local needs and aspirations.”
Councillor Tom Renhard, Cabinet Member for Housing Delivery and Homelessness, said: “We are working with partners all across the city to free up land for housing and deliver more affordable homes in the city.
“These 27 new affordable homes for social rent in the city centre will help people in need and add to the more than 12,500 new homes already built in Bristol between 2016 and 2023.
“SNG is an active partner in our work to continue tackling the housing crisis, with a significant development pipeline of affordable homes across the city. I welcome their continued commitment to addressing the housing crisis faced by our communities.”
