Retrofit work taking place to a home.

Retrofit work to begin on 372 homes in Hertfordshire

SNG is working with energy and regeneration specialist Equans to deliver significant decarbonisation work on 372 homes across East Herts. Customers are set to benefit from loft and cavity wall insulation, new windows and doors, solar panels and new internal fans, among other key measures.

Most of the improvements will be to homes graded with an EPC rating of D or E and have been carefully selected by SNG. The retrofit work will bring the homes up to a minimum of EPC C, making them warmer and more energy efficient.

Equans was selected following a successful pilot project on 10 SNG properties in the London Borough of Brent in 2024.  The work in Herts has been bolstered by £5million match-funding from Wave 2 of the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (formerly known as the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund).

In March it was revealed that we had been awarded £36.5 million grant funding from Wave 3 of the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund.  This will be invested in 4,500 of our existing homes across London and the South of England, improving the condition of our housing stock and prioritising health, wellbeing and affordability benefits for customers.  This funding supports our 10 year £0.5 billion investment and Homes and Place strategies to retrofit 1,500 homes each year targeting 15,000 existing homes at EPC B+ over the next decade.

Patrick Flynn, SNG Property Services Director – London and Herts, commented: “We’re pleased to be working with Equans to deliver this important retrofit work to homes in Hertfordshire. The project very much aligns with our purpose to provide good, affordable homes: the foundation for a better life and will result in healthier homes and happier customers using less energy.”

Rob Young, Divisional CEO, Equans UK and Ireland said: “We’re proud that our pilot project is now translating into a solid route to decarbonising SNG’s housing stock.  We have worked incredibly closely with them to build, and now deliver, a programme that will be cost and time-effective, provide minimum disruption to residents and most importantly – deliver life-changing results, which will enhance lives.”
