Youth Social Action (YSA) is a form of social action that creates a ‘double benefit’. This means there’s a benefit to the young person taking part (e.g. new skills, cv experience, improved confidence, etc) as well as there being a positive benefit to either other people or the environment.
The main forms of YSA are:
- Campaigning
- Volunteering
- Helping to improve local area
- Supporting people other than friends or relatives
- Fundraising/Sponsored event
- Youth advisory work
- Tutoring, coaching or mentoring
YSA is great because it builds lifelong positive habits, empowers young people to drive change, improves community perceptions of youth, and helps create a sense of belonging. YSA is also linked to reduced anti-social behaviour (ASB), increased confidence, and stronger communities.
Anyone over 16 or any organisation interested in youth social action is welcome! Whether you're experienced, starting your first project, or just learning about YSA, there’s a place for you.
There’s no limit to how many people from each organisation can join.
We’d love to hear your suggestions! Share your ideas for meeting themes, success stories, opportunities, or resources to be featured in our newsletter – we'd love to spotlight your idea.
